Our Truck’s:

There are two Vehicle options in which to conduct you lessons and test. Which vehicle you choose will depend on your current licence restrictions and your future licence requirements.

Heavy Combination Automatic

Our Heavy Combination Automatic Truck has a 6 Speed Automatic Gearbox.

On passing your licence test in this vehicle you will have either;

  1. An HC Condition A licence restricting you to driving an Automatic Vehicle. This is the case where you currently have a Condition A applied to your licence or;
  2. An HC Condition B Licence allowing you to drive only Synchromesh or Automatic Vehicles. This is the case where you hold a MR or HR Condition B licence or;
  3. An HC Unrestricted licence allowing you to drive any Heavy Combination Vehicle regardless of gearbox type. This is the case where you hold a MR or HR Unrestricted licence. (See Licence Conditions Explained)

Heavy Combination Road Ranger Manual

  • Our Heavy Combination Road Ranger Truck has a 13 Speed overdrive Crash/Road Ranger Gearbox. This will require doubling the clutch on both up and down changes of gear as well as matching the Revs.
  • On passing your licence test is this vehicle you will have a Heavy Combination Unrestricted Licence.
Helpful Information:

If you have a Condition B (Synchromesh) or Unrestricted Medium Rigid or Heavy Rigid licence you may want to complete you test in the Automatic making it an easier process to obtain your Heavy Combination Licence. You will maintain the current condition on your licence.

If you have an Condition A (Automatic) or Condition B (Synchromesh) Medium Rigid or Heavy Rigid Licence and want a Heavy Combination Licence you may consider completing your test in our Heavy Rigid Road Ranger Truck as once you have completed you test in our Road Ranger manual truck you will have an Unrestricted Heavy Vehicle Licence.

We would recommend that you spend some time in the Road Ranger Truck without the trailer learning to drive with the Road Ranger Gearbox prior to learning to drive the Heavy Combination Vehicle if you are looking to obtain an unrestricted licence.

After obtaining your licence in our Automatic Heavy Combination Vehicle you might considered, doing a refresher lesson in the Road Ranger Truck if you have limited experience with this type of gearbox.

During your licence test you will be required to demonstrate the following;

  • Reversing the trailer around either a left or right hand bend.
  • Unhitching and re-hitching the trailer in 12 minutes.

Requirement’s to obtain a Heavy Combination Licence:

  • Have held a Medium Rigid (MR) or Heavy Rigid (HR) Licence for 1 year.
  • Pay the appropriate fee and pass the practical Heavy Vehicle Driving Test with Queensland Transport.
