New South Wales Licences

We are licensed under the NSW Heavy Vehicle Competency Based Assessment (HVCBA) scheme to both conduct training and assessments for NSW Heavy Vehicle Licences. This means that the instructor conducts the assessment not the RTA.

Process to obtain a New South Wales Heavy Vehicle Licence under the HVCBA Scheme:

1. Visit the RTA and:

  • Complete the licence application form.
  • Provide Current NSW Photo Licence
  • Pay the appropriate fee and pass the Driver Knowledge Test for the class of licence you whish to obtain.
  • Pass an eyesight test.

2. Upon completing the above satisfactorily you will have to purchase to follow two books

  • A Guide to Heavy Vehicle Competency Based Assessment.
  • Heavy Vehicle Competency Based Assessment Learner Logbook
  • There are a number of competencies you must demonstrate over the period of your training. Once you have been assessed as competent by our instructor you then take your log book to the RTA pay the appropriate fee and your licence is upgraded.
  • For the final assessment the vehicle will be loaded to 75% of its capacity.
Note:

The prerequisites for the number of years you must have held the required lower class of licence are the same as outlined in the pages relating to the specific class of vehicle you wish to drive.

You can’t upgrade to a Heavy Combination Licence while you hold a P2 licence.
