Heavy Rigid Automatic – Our heavy rigid truck has a 12 speed automatic gearbox.
On passing your licence test in this vehicle you will have either;
(1.) A HR Condition A– A licence restricting you to drive an automatic vehicle or;
(2.) A HR Condition B– A licence allowing you to also drive synchromesh and automatic gearbox truck. This is the case where you hold an open c class (car) licence. (See Licence Conditions Explained)
(3.) A HR Unrestricted– A licence if you hold an unrestricted medium rigid licence which is often the case for participants who have transferred their licence from New Zealand or have help a medium rigid licence for a 20 + years heavy rigid synchromesh.

Obtaining a Heavy Rigid Truck Licence will open great job opportunities for you. You are entitled to drive larger council buses such as bendy or double decker buses therefore while most of their fleet will be MR’s they like you to have a heavy rigid licence.
Such as operated by Greyhound or Murrays are generally heavy rigid vehicles.
Ie Parcel and Freight Delivery’s with companies such as Toll or TNT have many Heavy Rigid Trucks.
While normally requiring a medium rigid licence do have some heavy rigid vehicles.
They often have a large number of heavy rigid vehicles for their general cartage work.
Heavy Rigid Trucks are often used for larger moving jobs.
You will find that upon completion of your training with the 13 Speed Road Ranger gearbox you will have little trouble stepping into an 18 or 15 Speed Road Ranger gearbox truck. The only difference is that in an 18 Speed you are able to split the gears in both high and low range and in a 13 speed you are only able to split the gears in the High Range.
