For proper and high-quality training for truck licence or for a truck licence upgrade, BDTS is perfect for you.
A HR (Heavy Rigid) Licence will allow you to drive a large range of heavy vehicles:
*GVM – Gross Vehicle Mass is the maximum operating weight of a vehicle including the vehicle’s itself and it’s cargo and passengers.
You can choose to get three types of HR Licence:
HR Condition A
Only allows you to drive trucks with an automatic gearbox.
You’ll learn on our 12 speed automatic truck.
It usually takes 3 or 4 lessons to enable you to pass the Heavy Rigid Condition A driving test.
HR Condition B
Allows you to drive HR trucks with either automatic or synchromesh gearboxes.
You’ll learn on our 6-speed heavy rigid synchromesh truck. A synchromesh gearbox is the same style that you find in manual cars.
If you are used to a manual car, you should have no problems changing gears in this truck. Alternatively, if you have a manual car licence, you can also get your HR Condition B in our 12 speed automatic truck.
It usually takes 4 or 5 lessons to enable you to pass the HR Condition B driving test.
HR Unrestricted
Allows you to drive heavy rigid trucks with all types of gearboxes.
You’ll learn on our HR Road Ranger Truck which has 13 speed overdrive crash/road ranger gearbox. This will require doubling the clutch on both up and down changes of gear, as well as matching the revs.
Or if you’re upgrading from an unrestricted MR licence, or have held an MR licence for over 20 years, then you can have lessons in either our 12 speed automatic truck, or our 6-speed synchromesh truck.
It normally takes 8 to 10 driving lessons to enable you to pass the unrestricted HR licence test. The final lesson will be combined with the test, ensuring that you are ready to go.
After learning on a 13-speed, you’ll find it easy to drive a 15-speed or 18-speed Road Ranger gearbox truck as the only difference is that in an 18-speed you are able to split the gears in both high and low range and in a 13 speed you are only able to split the gears in the high range.
If you have a manual car licence, and only want to obtain a Condition B (Synchromesh) licence, you may prefer to complete you HR Licence test in an automatic truck, as it will be easier for you.
If you have an automatic car licence, and would like to have a manual car licence, you may consider completing your HR Licence training and test in our Heavy Rigid Synchromesh Truck because, as a bonus, you will also qualify for a manual car licence.
As long as you’ve held a Provisional or Open C Class (car) licence for at least 2 years, you are eligible to get a Heavy Rigid (HR) Licence.
There’s no such thing as a truck driving learners permit. Just call us to book your driving lessons, pass your knowledge test, then pass your practical truck driving test, and that’s it! The sooner you book your lessons the sooner you can start driving trucks.
